Opetaia’s primary promotional backing comes from Tasman Boxing, based in Australia’s Gold Coast, which has now entered into a collaborative partnership with Zuffa along with Goldstar Promotions and manager Spencer Brown. At just 29 years old with an undefeated record of 29 wins, including 23 knockouts, the Sydney-born champion has recently been dominating the cruiserweight scene. Now based in Australia’s Gold Coast, Opetaia has completed a remarkable three-win streak in 2025, all by knockout against undefeated opponents.
His most recent fight took place on December 6 at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, where he delivered a brutal knockout to IBF mandatory challenger Huseyin Cinkara. Interestingly, that bout was originally scheduled for January of the same year, but Cinkara suffered an ankle injury during training, causing him to withdraw. He was replaced by David Nyika, whom Opetaia knocked out in the fourth round in the same venue. Between those bouts, Opetaia secured a convincing fifth-round victory over undefeated Claudio Squeo. During the buildup to that fight, Opetaia expressed some frustration, openly admitting that his initial opponent wasn’t his top choice, but that circumstances prevented him from facing the division’s other titlists.
Despite this, Opetaia remains committed to unifying the cruiserweight division and believes his new promotional alliance will support his mission. Following that, a show on February 1 is planned, although details including the main event are still under wraps. On February 14, Zuffa Boxing 03 will feature heavyweight stars Efe Ajagba and Charles Martin as headliners.
Interestingly, at this stage, none of the signed fighters are tied to any sanctioning body, aligning with Zuffa’s stance of remaining independent from the alphabet entities that often influence boxing politics.
