Electric Vehicle Sales in India: A Rising Trend
India's electric vehicle (EV) market is experiencing a surge in sales, with October 2025 witnessing a significant increase compared to September. The overall sales figure for the month stood at 234,191 units, marking a 27% growth from the previous month's 183,820 units.
Breakdown by Category:
- 2-Wheeler (E2W): Sales skyrocketed to 143,796 units, a 34% rise from September's 104,787 units.
- 3-Wheeler Passenger (E3W): The L5 segment saw a boost, with 23,949 units sold, up from 18,491 in September.
- E-rickshaw: Sales grew to 37,117 units, a 9% increase.
- E-cart: Numbers improved to 6,979 units, a 12% rise.
- E4W: The segment saw a positive trend with 17,873 units sold, up from 16,368.
- E-Goods Carrier: Sales increased to 1,466 units, a 23% growth.
However, a slight decline was observed in E-bus sales, dropping to 281 units from 343 in September.
Total Sales in the Last 12 Months:
From November 2024 to October 2025, India recorded a remarkable 21,82,494 EV sales, according to Vahan Dashboard data (excluding Telangana and low-speed e-2Ws).
Fuel-wise Sales Trends:
- 2-Wheeler: The penetration percentage of EVs in this category decreased slightly from 8.1% in September to 4.6% in October.
- 3-Wheeler Passenger (L5): The top brands were Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, Bajaj Auto, and TVS Motor.
- 3-Wheeler Goods (L5): Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, Bajaj Auto, and Omega Seiki led the market.
- E-rickshaw: YC Electric, SAERA Electric, and Dilli Electric dominated sales.
- E-cart: Dilli Electric and YC Electric were the top performers.
- 4-Wheeler Passenger Car/Cab: The market share of EVs in this category declined from 5.3% to 3.2%.
OEM Leaders:
- Tata Motors leads the pack with over 40% market share in e-goods carrier sales.
- PMI Electro Mobility topped the electric bus sales.
- Tata Motors also dominates the e-4W sales.
