De Bernales Pub Revival: Kalgoorlie's Iconic Eatery Returns with a Twist (2025)

Get ready for a blast from the past! The beloved De Bernales pub and restaurant is making a comeback in Kalgoorlie's CBD, and it's bringing a whole new vibe to the town.

This iconic bar and eatery, a true staple of Kalgoorlie, is set to reopen its doors next year, thanks to new owners who are breathing life back into this local favorite. But here's where it gets exciting: they're not just reviving the old, they're adding a fresh twist with plans for a brand-new beer garden!

Golden Hotels, the proud owners of both the Tower and Albion hotels, has acquired the Hannan Street pub, which sadly closed its doors late last year. Speaking to the Kalgoorlie Miner, Michelle Roberts, the operating manager of Golden Hotels, shared the exciting news. She revealed that if all goes well with the extensive renovations, Debos (as it's affectionately known) will be back in business by the end of January, bringing a much-needed boost to the local nightlife scene.

"We're keeping the name and concept largely the same because it's a winning formula," Roberts explained. "But with a new beer garden and some fun additions like undercover eight-ball tables, we're injecting some fresh energy into the space."

And this is the part most people miss: it's not just about the name. "It will still be called Debos because that's what everyone knows and loves," Roberts added. "The name is just a small part of what makes this place so special."

The popular coastal bar's revamp is set to be the hottest spot this summer, and it's not just about the beer garden. "We're keeping the same vibe because it works," Roberts emphasized. "Debos is a local favorite, a place that holds memories for many."

A venue manager is already on board, and the rest of the staff will be recruited soon. As for the food, while the details are still being finalized, one thing is certain: the restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, catering to all tastes and appetites. And on Friday and Saturday nights, the pub will continue its tradition of transforming into an entertainment hub with a DJ and dance floor, keeping the party going.

Golden Hotels, with its diverse portfolio, also operates two pubs in Perth, the Mt Henry and Swan View taverns, as well as the upscale 300 Acres at the Wembley Golf Course and the renowned five-star restaurant Matilda Bay.

So, are you ready to relive the good old days at Debos? Or do you think a revamp is unnecessary? Share your thoughts in the comments and let's spark a friendly debate!
